Syncdocs 6.996 release – fix for large Google Drive files locked by anti-virus

We are happy to announce the latest version of Syncdocs for Google Drive, version 6.996.

The main change is a fix for large executable files not completing download because they are locked by anti-virus apps. This was mainly seen on .exe files over 100MB with Windows Defender anti-virus.

We have also updated the libraries to stay up-to-date with recent Google changes. All users should install this update.

How to Update
The upgrade is free and will happen automatically. The old Syncdocs version should ask if you want to update automatically in the next few days.

To update now, right click on the Syncdocs taskbar icon, go to Preferences -> Advanced -> “Check for Updates”.

The 64 bit and portable (USB memory stick) versions are also updated to version 6.996 and can also be downloaded from http://www.syncdocs.com/download-syncdocs

.NET 4.5 update might be required

This release will require .NET 4.5 due to Google TLS (SSL) security improvements. These crypto libraries are not in .NET 3.5 or .NET 4.

.NET 4.5 was released nine years ago in 2012, so your computer should have it installed. If it is not installed, Syncdocs will prompt for its installation, and take you to the .NET 4.5 installation page.

Syncdocs 6.994 – minor bug fix release

This version of Syncdocs fixes a bug that occurs during installation or re-authentication with Google.

The bug shown was that “Password exceeds 80 characters”.

This bug was caused by Google upgrading their security to use very long OAuth tokens. Syncdocs has been fixed to store these longer tokens in the Windows secure credential store.

The bug is minor, and won’t affect you unless you install on a new PC, add a new user or re-authenticate.

How to force 64 bit Syncdocs to run at login

If you have updated from 32 bit Syncdocs to 64 bit Syncdocs, then you need to tell the 32 bit version not to run automatically at login. Here’s how to do it:
1. Run the 32 bit version (the one that runs at startup).
2. Click on the Syncdocs start menu icon, and select Preferences.
3. Un-check the item shown below.

4. Click OK.
5. Exit Syncdocs 32 via the Exit menu item.
6. Run Syncdocs64 in the Syncdocs Start menu group in Windows
7. Enable the option shown in the above menu, and click OK.

The 64 bit version of Syncdocs will now run at startup.

Syncdocs 6.962 Power User Google Drive App Released

We are happy to announce the latest version of Syncdocs, version 6.951. This is a minor update.

  • The release contains some minor fixes to stay compatible with the the latest Windows 10 release, and high DPI touch screens.
  • IT also contains the latest Google Drive API to stay compatible and secure with Google’s updates to Drive, security and Photos.

Roadmap

This is the last maintenance release of the 6.x series. We will be releasing Syncdocs 7 soon. Syncdocs 7 will require .NET 4.5 due to Google TLS security improvements. These crypto libraries are no in .NET 3.5 or .NET 4. This means that Syncdocs 7 will not work on Windows 2000, XP or Server 2003.

We will release a separate build for these operating systems, but this will not have the new features of Syncdocs 7, or support for the latest Google features like Team Drive.
