The title tells the word format story (I HOPE). I run the Open Office ODT file/folder system, but my syncdocs synced "my docs" folder files (some only) come up as a "word">>"odt" file>
Would checking the syncdocs "preferences'>advanced< "enable real time collaboration between Microsoft word and Google docs" cause/create his situation to occur?

Update: when I have "My google docs" folder open and right click a word>odt file, in the drop down list I get I click "open with" > "open Office writer". Open Office writer then opens this file quite readily.
I don't think the syndocs "conversion"? problem is cured but there is a remedy of sorts at least, uhh I think.

Phil, we got confused somehow. Here is an image shack url that depics the "word-odt" file image formatted files I do not want to be "doc" files but rather want them to be left in their original Open office .odt state of being.

As to your earlier bove post quote: "Use selective sync in the preferences, sync menu to select folders to sync.", I tried to use it but saw nothing I could see that would stop the creation of the synced word-odt files in "my google docs" folder.
If I missed something, please advise.

Phil, appreciate your special thought! Checked and found out that my Open Office is now told to associate with odf not word, which is: (1)"document type: odf text document, and (2) "Always saved as": "ODF text document".
So you know, more particularly, after I delete all the files in "my google docs folder", upon a resync via syncdocs I get the same file names you saw in my screenshot.
How word (doc) gets introduced is a true multistory

Hope this is of some factual help to help you to help me. This screen shot of the google docs folder's files is not straight from only my desktop's windows OS this time but rather is made through Open Office's program.
I am sure you will notice that these latter file icons are those of solely syncdocs and NOT any $M word association.

So I am still seeking a resolution to the synced bookmarks "word-odt" files in my "my google docs" synced windows file as opposed to the same Open Office accessed odt files.
Hate this to be problem for anyone, but this syncdocs synced problem in reality exists.

Solution! I am using a spare computer that was given to me by a neighbor. It turns out that there was installed on it a Microsoft Office Home and student program. I looked because I realized there might be something installed which was causing the word format problem on these files. I uninstalled Microsoft Office Home and student, and voila, the word file format problem completely disappeared. It appears that the Microsoft Office Home and student program was telling syndocs or my puter to associate these files with MS Word and not solely .odt files. Anyway problem solved! Kind of a weird one! Phil, if you had not mentioned the possible Open Office .odt association instruction possible remedy, I would never had thought to look for any word program.
