I have noticed that the native Google Drive application is very quick when it comes to detecting file changes on the local computer and then uploading the new version to Google Drive.

Syncdocs in contrast seems to need to run a full analysis of all files in the set before it proceeds with syncing and doing an upload/download, which can take a few minutes to fully complete.

This is liveable, but it would be much more useable to know that local file changes will be reflected online within moments of the local file change.

There are two causes for this:
Syncdocs does a full sync at startup and then a full check about every hour, as the Google server sometimes doesn't notify it of all the changes that have been made.

If you've just changed a file, Syncdocs waits a few seconds, in case there are more file changes, as would typically occur if many files are copied or files are saved. This means that the first file might be a few tens of seconds old, but subsequent files are there sooner.
