Strange thing happened yesterday, as some of our folders have been deleted by administrator on the server. I have no idea what happened, as none of us users deletes folders under that account.
As a proactive measure I would like to move some of the programs running on the server to a different user account.
Is it possible to run Syncdocs under a different user account - and how would I do that?

Syncdocs
You can use the RunAs or ShellRunAs tool to run Syncdocs under a different Windows user account.
You might need to install Syncdocs in that user's account:
msiexec /i Syncdocs.msi TARGETDIR="%ProgramFiles%\Syncdocs" ALLUSERS=1

If you want to change the Syncdocs (Google account) user, either create a shortcut via the Account menu in Preferences, or use the command line -u switch:
syncdocs.exe -u username@gmail.com
I'll have to come back to that issue once more. As we had another incident where local files were deleted, I finally decided to implement the change, running Syncdocs under its own account.
There are a couple of issues, but let's do one after the other.
- running Syncdocs under a different account in an administrator session doesn't list the syncdocs icon in the taskbar, so I won't be able to change any settings
- I'm having the problem now that when clicking to "selective folder sync", I just get "Please wait a minute while listing all folders..." There is no way to ok, cancel, the program just hangs.
- Advanced - log all syncdocs errors - view gives an error message: "Unhandled exception has occured in your application. Input string was not in a correct format."

My guess is that this new account does not have the permissions required to run.
The three errors you mentioned point to the following permissions needed:
- not seeing the icon probably means you need to give Syncdocs permission to interact with the desktop.
- not seeing the folders as it requires permission to see folders.
- showing the log file requires permission to spawn other apps (notepad in this case to show the text log file).
You could try allocating Syncdocs account these permissions in the Group policy editor.
Another approach might be because there is a mix of old and new permissions. Syncdocs is probably running from the new account but it has its old config files pointing to folders it cannot access.
You can try fully uninstalling Syncdocs and deleting its data folder (in the %APPDATA%) path. Do this from the old Administrator account.
Then re-install from the special Syncdocs account.
Ok, I've done that, but I do have a problem during installation under the new user account.
After starting the installer, and clicking next in the first window, I get this message.
"Windows Installer: The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation."
I'm trying installation on a Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard (virtual server). The user is a local administrator, and I have managed to install other programs.
I've also tried to set UAC to the lowest level, same result.
Any hints?

If you don't mind, here's another problem. I am not able to add a link to a network folder due to missing privileges. My assumption was, that Syncdocs wants to create the link in the folder in question first, before moving it to the local documents folder, so I gave it additional privileges. But that didn't work.
"Please run As Administrator. Syncdocs does not have the correct privileges to make a link to this folder "L:\_Kurs-Bibliotek). Please run Syncdocs "As Administrator" or assign the correct privileges to this user. Then retry selecting this folder."

Syncdocs creates link to the original folder - it does not move any files across, the link in a symbolic link (symlink) like a shortcut to the original files.
