Thanks for the reply Andrew
I’ve now registered syncdocs and have been able to see what’s going on here.
I was expecting that when the option to map the network drive was enabled it would show what was in the Google Docs account, it doesn’t. It only shows what syncdocs is putting there. So any files placed onto Google docs via the browser interface(possibly from another computer) don’t show up at all.
The other curiosity is that although syncdocs will put all the files listed on the “network drive” they may not actually be on Google’s servers yet, but are in the queue to be uploaded. With large amounts of data it can take a long time for everything to get uploaded.
Calling this function a “network drive” is unhelpful and misleading, as it most certainly doesn’t work as a real network drive does.
Other problems include:
1. Even if the “allow duplicate file names on Google” is unchecked it is still possible to duplicate folder names.
2. The folder selection to sync option doesn’t retain any folder hierarchy, this makes it difficult(impossible) to work out what’s being synced if there are many sub-folders with the same name.
eg My invoices are all stored in folders by year and then subdivided into folders by type (c:/2009/invoices for rental, c:/2009/invoices for sales, c:/2010/invoices for rental etc)
Not aided by problem 1
Improvements in UI.
Why is a desktop icon installed if all it does is tell you to use the taskbar icon ?
I would expect to be able to access the functions and configuration options of the program from the sync status window when open, rather than having to go back and re-open the taskbar options.
Other than that syncdoc seems a good value and useful program and I hope it improves in development.
