Help on Google Drive sync

   I'm evaluating SyncDocs for both file/docs synchronization and generic realtime backup.

   As far as I can detect, there's no way to specify that some folders are only to be backed up, not synchronized. This gets a bit messy when several PCs are using SyncDocs with the same account, as a new installation defaults to syncing everything. I need to quickly stop synchronization, disable the backup folders from other PCs, then delete everything that was synchronized locally.

   It would be nice to somehow flag certain folders as "private" to a single PC, and that transfers should default to upload only. These settings should be respected by other PCs - I guess this would require some shared state between installations, possibly in a special GDocs file... ?

   Yes, the install flow and custom deployment for advanced setup is something we're thinking of. It is messy right now if you don't want the default settings.

   On way is to generate the settings you want on one PC. Syncdocs saves the config to this file:
   c:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Syncdocs\user@gmail.com\appsettings.xml

   You can copy this file to the other users PCs.

   They will still need to enter their Google password as this is not stored in this file, but the Windows secure password vault.

   Hi Phil,

   Regarding that last comment, I don't like that my google account credentials are stored locally and are used to programmaticaly access my account. I am actually considering getting another google account just for syncdocs because of that and repurchase google storage. I mean these credentials are used on all other google services too, including gmail, adwords, and what's not.
   There is another, relatively new, Google docs sync software (of which I switched over to you guys for other reasons), that handles authentication in cleaner and more secure way.
   After installation, you are redirected to a login page on google.com, and then prompted to give permission to the app just for Gdcos(I assume behind the scenes google issues to the app an authentication token that can be used form that point forward). It is done so for each machine. Dropbox also work in similar way. It also permits remotely deauthorizing a machine in case it was compromised.

   Please consider this.

   @begood: two factor authentication within syncdocs already is a feature available ;)

   Thanks, this workaround works, but to use it I must suffer the repeated overhead of 2-factors auth, where other applications support this natively and appear under

   Authorized Access to your Google Account

   Connected Sites, Apps, and Services

   You have granted the following services access to your Google Account:
   [list of apps goes here but syncdocs is not one of them]

   Also when setting application specific password Google specifies:
   "Note that this password grants complete access to your Google Account."

   Why does Syncdocs need to access my Google Account? Why can't it request permissions only to Google Docs under "Connected Sites, Apps, and Services"?

   @begood: what you are asking for is OAuth. We didn't release an implementation with Syncdocs as the Google OAuth 2.0 API for desktop apps has incompletely implemented it. The reason other products can implement it is that they talk to Google using an intermediate server of their own, not directly like Syncdocs.

   That said, Google is actively working on fixing OAuth for Windows clients. When it is ready and tested, we will implement it, it is better solution, as it offers more fine grained security control.
