Help on Google Drive sync

   Just started using this app because of the multi G accounts feature and its working out much better than I expected having tried Syncplicity and Insync as well.

   I was wondering if there was a way of excluding certain files. I saw in the settings that I can exclude files that have no GDoc version which is great but can I specify certain files not to sync also ?

   Would be handy for those big PPT files that I don't always need in the cloud.

   Nice app either way.

   There's no simple way to currently exclude certain files.

   If enough people are interested, we can add it as a feature.

   I think excluding certain files, or certain file types, or certain sub-folders, would be very very useful. It would speed up the sync and save on google storage.

   You can now exclude certain Google or shared folders with the "Selective Sync" option.
   Local folders might also be added to the list of exclusions, if there is enough interest.

   yeah sorry just to clarify I meant excluding *local* files/file types/folders would be useful.

   Hi,
   Yes, we just added the feature, but it has no user interface yet:

   This new beta version has the ability to ignore certain files. The feature has no user interface right now, but if you're up to editing xml, open this file:

   c:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Syncdocs\user@gmail.com

   and edit the section "FileAndFolderNamesToIgnore"

   you can add thumbs.db to the list:

   <FileAndFolderNamesToIgnore>
   <string>thumbs.db</string>
   <string>.dropbox.cache</string>
   </FileAndFolderNamesToIgnore>
   Files or folders in this list will be ignored.

   it can also ignore certain extensions:

   <ExtensionsToIgnore>
   <string>.lnk</string>
   <string>.LNK</string>
   </ExtensionsToIgnore>

   Extensions are case sensitive.

   EDIT:
   1. Exit Syncdocs before editing the config file.
   2. Edit the file
   3. Restart Syncdocs

   Hey,

   I added the thumbs.db as a file to ignore in the xml file.
   Now, if I goto the preference window and click OK (after changing something) all of my changes are overwritten and are reverted to the "default" settings in the xml file.

   Can I prevent this from happening?
   So I don’t have to enter the same settings over and over again?

    Hi Andrew,

    Thanks ... that did the trick! (Closing syncdocs before editing the xml)

    I also wanted to say that syncdocs works absolutely perfect for me.
    For now I use it as a backup tool to get all my files to google.docs; and it works just perfectly.

    With this, SyncDocs is *so* close to being able to fullfill my realtime backup needs.
    However, I have different kinds of backup sets, with different exclusion requirements.
    In some hierarchies, I'd like to exclude e.g. *.exe and *.dll, in others I don't.

    The user friendly solution would be support for different exclusion lists for different folders.

    The hardcore solution would be support for exclusion regexps applied to the full path of each file. I'm happy with putting these in XML.
