Syncdocs
If looks like Google have just changed from Office 2003 to Office 2007 as their default export format.
We have asked them for more details and will upgrade Syncdocs handle it correctly when they confirm it.
For now Syncdocs handles both Office 2003 and Office 2010/2007 formats fine. Hoiwever, Excel will ask for confirmation before loading it.
Office 2003 users may need to install the free compatibility pack

Got momentarily excited and then found that Google Spreadsheets is still limited to 256 columns - bummer

Syncdocs
We have just released a new Syncdocs (version 3.94) the supports Excel 2007 (.xlsx) as the default export format.
Because it is a small change, we are not going to automatically update the old Syncdocs yet, but will roll out this change in a few weeks with other upgrades.
To update, simply download the new version and install it over the old one.

Notes
Google no longer supports Office 2003 as an export format. This means .doc .ppt and .xls files are no longer supported by Google. It now exports .docx .pptx and .xlsx files by default.
If you still use Office 2003 you may need to install the free Office compatibility pack from Microsoft. This lets you open Office 2007/2010/2013 files in Office 2003.
