Encrypted PDF files not deleted on Google Drive

I have just enabled encryption on Google Drive. The encryption seems to have worked successfully, but not all the original unencrypted files have been deleted. All PDF files still exist in Google Drive as .pdf as well as the encrypted version.

Did I miss a configuration setting somewhere?

The files probably aren't there - but Google is still showing them in the files list.

Sometimes the Google server caches file names that have actually been deleted. This seems to happen more with files that it can generate a preview of like .pdf and .jpg files.

Normally the file is actually deleted, but the Google server has not yet updated its index. If you click on a .pdf file in the browser, does it show, or does it come up with a file not found (404) error?

The PDF files are still there. I can access them in a web browser, download them and read and save them locally. This is now about 36 hours after encrypting them.

JPG files have worked OK and the original files have been deleted as expected. As far as I can tell this only affects PDF files.

This is strange. Did Syncdocs report errors deleting these pdf files?

It might be that another app or user has permissions to these pdf files. Have you installed any Google Drive pdf specific plug-ins or apps, or shared these pdf files to another user?

The Syncdocs log file shows no errors. Nothing is shared with other users. I haven't knowingly installed anything. Google Drive shows I had "Lumin PDF Viewer" as an application, although the "Use by default" box wasn't ticked.

I've tried disconnecting Lumin PDF Viewer on the Settings menu, but the problem still remains. If I create an unencrypted directory and add a PDF file it is synced correctly to Drive. If I then encpyt the directory in Syncdocs the encrypted file shows up in Drive, but the original PDF is not deleted.

Hi SimonE,
I have managed to replicate the error that you are having with encryption and PDF files. I'm not sure what Google has changed in their PDF handling, but will investigate further and issue a fix for Syncdocs.

This is now fixed. We have updated Syncdocs to deal with Google's new handling of pdf files. .pdf files now encrypt and decrypt fine, and the originals are deleted online.

You can download the update (version 5.83) from here. Just quit Syncdocs and double click on the Syncdocs.msi file and the update will install. Right now this update is manual, but we'll roll out more changes in an automatic update for all users in a few weeks.
