Files appear in the root of the Gdocs sync folder that appear to be duplicates.
These files are already sync'd to docs. Why does another copy of the files keep appearing in the root of the sync drive?
Why are files downloading that seem to be duplicates

Let me explain further...
I create a .xls and save to the sync drive in a sub folder.
That file gets sync'd to docs into a collection.
Then for some reason the file appears in the root of the sync drive. When I check the sub folder the same file is there. And when I check docs the same file is in the collection like it should be.So I dont know why a duplicate file gets downloaded to my sync drive root. Is this an known issue or is there something else going on?

Hi Jon,
The Google web display "Home" can make things appear in the root that actually aren't.
Does the file appear in the synced in the root on your Windows PC, too? Do you end up with two copies locally?Posted 11 years ago # -
I had the same issue, after initial sync dozens of my sub-folders (sub-collections) and files appeared in the local root folder. I checked these were duplication anyway so I deleted them. However, they kept coming up - until I chose for all the items under Home on Google Docs to "not show in Home". Since then sync appears normal.

Thanks, for the help.
It seems that during the sync the conversion to docs format fails (for some reason) and it puts a copy of the file under the root of the sync drive. Then that file gets sync'd to docs. I can find these files easily because they are not in a collection like all my other files. In docs the files are the same (dups), just one is not in a collection (from the root). I trash the one not in a collection and the sync removes the file from the root of the sync drive. So that part is making sense (I think).I guess my real issue is why does the conversion to docs fail?
The .xls is a form template and we only change a few cells and save as... This is repeated throughout the day. Most of the time the new file we create will sync and convert to a docs format, as expected. But sometimes it fails and I dont know why, especiall since the files are nearly alike. Anyone got any tips for me?Posted 11 years ago # -
There are 2 issues I cant figure out. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
1. What causes files to be downloaded from docs to the root of my sync drive?
2. Why do some files fail to convert to docs format?
We are creating simple excel spreadsheets on our pc and we save to a sub folder on the sync drive. Another office will edit these spreadsheets online in docs. Nearly all of these files we create will sync and convert as expected, but some fail to convert and we cannot edit them in docs, but I dont know why this happens. I cant recreate the issue, it just happens randomly.Posted 11 years ago # -
Jon,
1. Is a known bug with Google Docs.
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Docs/thread?fid=236d646281a1b16600049e835b666b27&hl=en
I asked them about it 6 weeks ago, so I hope they fix it soon.2. This is also a common problem, on Google Docs:
http://docs.google.com/support/bin/search.py?ctx=en%3Asearchbox&forum=1&query=convert+xls+problemMy personal experience is that macros cause xls issues. You might find more tips on the Google forums. But as you say, it sometimes just seems random.

Also, Google have been having a lot of issues as they roll out a new system in the last 10 days, perhaps it is a temporary glitch.

It has been two months since anyone from Syncdocs posted on this thread. Is a resolution coming soon?
