Syncdocs 6.931 minor update released

We are happy to announce the latest version of Syncdocs, version 6.931.
The release contains some minor fixes to stay compatible with the new release of Windows 10, and also contains the latest Google Drive API to stay compatible with Google's updates to Drive, security and Photo's.

How to Update
The upgrade is free and will happen automatically. The old Syncdocs version should ask if you want to update automatically in the next few days.

To update now, right click on the Syncdocs taskbar icon, go to Preferences -> Advanced -> “Check for Updates”.

You can also download the new version and install it over the old one.

The 64 bit and portable (USB memory stick) versions are also updated to version 6.931 and can also be downloaded from http://www.syncdocs.com/download-syncdocs

The portable versions now contain a link to the update files, as portable versions do not auto-update as they could be running from a USB memory stick.

Hi,

We have been fielding calls from our 152 Syncdoc customers all day as a result of this release due to the fact that it required entry of an administrator password, which has never been the case in the past.

Our customers RDP into our Amazon AWS Windows Server 2012 R2, so the only way to fix the problem short of releasing our precious administrator passwords and then resetting them, has been to kick them off the server and sign in ourselves as administrators.

Could you please fix this, as it will become even more of a problem as our customer base grows.

Hi Sambodh,

Sorry for the hassle. We are currently investigating this, but have not replicated it yet. Have you changed any group policy recently? Do you know when the Windows Server 2012 R2 last ran Windows update?

Hi Sambodh,

We have fixed the issue with the updater. The problem was that the shortcut for the 64bit version was being created in all user's Start menu group instead of only the current user's group on Server clients. This problem is now fixed and tested.

I your users have already updated to the yesterdays version, then they will still see the UAC Admin permissions box on updating to today's version. This is a once off prompt.

If they are still running the old version, then they will not see any prompts, as per usual.

My apologies for this issue with the update permissions on Server.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the fix!

I noticed that I wasn't having to enter my administrator password on the last couple of customers I was engaged in fixing, so checked my email.

I hope the second paragraph doesn't mean we have to redo about 120 customers we've already fixed up???

Not unless they update immediately. If they update now, then they are running Syncdocs from the updater app (wyUpdate). This means that they will still see a UAC Admin prompt to update, as they are running in the wyUpdate admin context.

However, if they quit and restart Syncdocs, then they will not need any special permissions to update, as it is running as a normal user.

So briefly, you do not need to redo the 120 customers, provided their RDP sessions are fully closed at sometime, or they just exit and restart Syncdocs sometime themselves.
