I have 20gb account. If i right click on my local synced folder i have 9gb, 9000 files. Google is telling me that i have used 18gb, 9000 files. There is nothing in the bin, and i'm not using any in Picasa ... how can i analyse my disk space to find out what is going on ?
Where has all my space gone?

Have you just moved a lot to the bin? Sometimes Google takes a while (a day) to clear it all away.
What does the Syncdocs report say? Click on the "90% of 20GB used" item on the Syncdocs menu.

Phil - i havn't moved anything to the bin on google docs - i may have locally deleted the odd few MB's, but that's all. The syncdoc report shows nothing in the trash, and i have also clicked the remove trash and remove duplicates just in case... In terms of space, it's almost double the amount of data on Gdocs to what i have in the local folder, but in terms of files/folders they both read roughly the same quantity. I have sorted in Gdocs by size, just to see if there is one big rogue file in there, but everything is genine files from my local folder. I really can't see anything wrong..... i have double checked my picasa web (just 11 pictures in total, using 2mb total). Is there anything else that might be using up my space? Is there anyway to tell on the google server where my 19.6gb has been allocated to ? thanks !

Did you do any moving folders around within your local share?
I've had a similar issue in the past with suddenly running out of space. A user reorganized all the folders locally: A B C D towards 1(A B) and 2(C D), thus creating a new hierarchy at once (no sync in between). More than half the space was in use.
Then syncdocs uploaded all the copied/moved folders inside the new folder "1". but on gdocs it still had the old flat folder structure next to the new one. so may be it didn't finish to replicate, because it ran out of space. I manually deleted all the "shouldn't be there"-files and folders at gdocs. Hours later the free space count was back to were it should be.

Hey Dan - i havn't moved or done anything significant at all...nothing structural that would cause this...but maybe the only similarity is that sync can't finish because it's ran out fo space. I'll try doing something so that sync CAN finish, and then maybe soemthing else will show up in Gdocs... cheers

.... BTW, i'm not converting any of my docs into Gdocs format - just using it as sort of cloud where i can access my files from anywhere..., i presume a 100mb file locally will take up 100mb on google storage and there isn't some weird decompression going on ?

may be you still have some clutter within your gdocs root (google messed up a bit when introducing the 'make root behave like root' feature some months ago). lock into gdocs and check your root: filter for "all items" or "owned by me" and then apply "advanced search options" (dropdown arrow at search box) -> "not in collections"

Hi Dan - Ok, that shows me about 20 odd files, plus loads of 'folders'. Are you saying that those folders, who's names are identical to my collections, are duplicates?

not quite. it shows you all items that are not in any other collection. That's all your folders (collections) that are at your root level plus all your files at root level.
This filter does not show folders that are nested somewhere within you folder hierarchy. And it does not show files that are somewhere within your folders.
Basically it shows you all items without a label because collections are only labels so to speak (this is the awesome part compared to the old way we think of folders, because you can have an item show up in multiple folders at once).now, compare this to your local file share. If you find items that shouldn't be there and that make up for the difference in free space count, you are at the bottom of you problem.

Something strange - Syncdocs storage figures show....
17.3gb of 21gb used (82%)
Space free - 3.7gb
9776 files and folders are using 5.3GB (25.3%)And trash is now using 12gb!!!
Don't know what's going on, because all i did was tidy up a few hundred kb's files ! I'll let it sync and see now how it goes...
I'm not stupid, honest ! ;-)

Got it - there was one file in the root that was 2gb - that was causing the problems ! I think the servers might have had trouble handling a 2gb file - ive delted it, and gained 12gb !

Weird. The max file size is 10GB, and we test to just below that. Next time we run some tests I'll check the local vs. online space and see if it balances.
