Syncdoc has defaces all heathers and footers as well as most tables in several gig of documents.
So far Syncdoc has only caused headaches, costly technician- and internet bills.
The free version worked ok, but the minute we paid it all went downhill. First it stuffed up the first computer. It particiant the hard drive and messed up all my folders.
Much worse is the damage it has caused on the mother computer, any document that has a heather, a footer or a table is stuffed. I am aware that things like this can happen do to conversion to Google docs. For that reason, we have chosen to up load all the files and folders as doc and not to use Google doc as the default office suite.
One would think that before a software like this is offered to the public it would be thoroughly tested. I assume that this post will be deleted, but if this is happening I will plaster it all over the internet.

@Lorenz: your best option is to choose not to convert the docs to Google format, if you want 100% MS Word fidelity. Google normally does a good job of converting, but some MS Word features like headers and footers can change. You can recover the original MS Word files from your g:\OriginalsBackup folder.

Thanks and yes I have restored both of my computers. But what worries me to death is that I have chosen "NOT to convert to Google format" and it worked fine for a few days. So what made it to stuff everything up over the weekend?

While we at it, Syncdoc downloads all sorts of loose documents. They all belong somewhere in a folder, but for some reason Syncdoc picks them and downloads them to my computer. Several times I have deleted these files on my computer in the understanding that they would be deleted in Google doc too, but no, a few hours later they appear again on my computer.

Syncdocs has two settings which might be the cause of confusion:
The "Convert files to Google Docs" setting converts files.
The "Make Google Docs my default Office suite" setting tells Syncdocs to open Office files in Google Docs.
Note that files already uploaded in a certain format, keep that format, and if you choose to convert a file in Google Docs in the web browser, it makes the new file in the root.Posted 1 year ago # -
Thanks Phil,
"Make Google Docs my default Office suite" >> unticked
"Convert files to Google Docs" >> unticked
No files on Google docs where ever in Google format as I am aware of this problem.Posted 1 year ago # -
I would really like to make this work, but at the moment I feel like burning the lot!!!
On Google docs I have "My collection" with 3 folders (Admin, Students, Training)
It appears that Google has added to My collection, DirectUploads and Public Share
It also appears that Syncdoc added G-drive to My collection and literally doubled the volume. On my desktop Computer I have on Drive C (Admin, Students, Training)
It appears that Syncdoc has added the following: DirectUploads, G-drive, OriginalsBackup and Public ShareI have now 3 sets of files in 3 different locations and thanks to Syncdoc, some ok but most of them stuffed up. Ohh yes, I forgot to tell you that I have the same disaster also on my Laptop although there Google docs are on E- drive together with the backups.
Well thank you so much for the disaster. I have restored most of my files, but as you can see they are all over the place and as the volume is about 30GB you will understand that I am not going to simply delete the lot and start again hoping tht this time it might work out.
So if you are serious about your system, your advise and guidance is greatly appreciated

Hi Lorenz,
The G drive is a mirror of what is on Google, it is a link, the files are not actually stored twice on your local PC.Syncdocs makes the additional folders for its own use, the DirectUploads, OriginalsBackup and Public Share.
So we can help you further, and understand what it happening on your PC's please email us the Syncdocs log. You can get it by right clicking on the Syncdocs icon, selecting "Preferences", then "Advanced" and then "View Log".
(if you do not see an "Advanced" tab, click on "Advanced options..." button to see it)Posted 1 year ago # -
What happen to my post 2 days ago? I posted the logs of both computers

Hi Lorenz,
The forum software (bbPress) limits the length of posts, that is probably why the post is not showing.
Please email the two logs to us at [email protected] and we'll look at them.Posted 1 year ago #
