Error: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.

Syncdocs will no longer sync. When ever it attempts to sync it gives the following error message:

"Syncdocs error: sync paused. Main error: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation."

OS: Win 7 Ultimate
Syncback v. 2.11

This is repeatable as it happens with every attempt to sync. If I manually start the sync, it will say "Initializing" for several minutes and then return the error message.

A search of these forums didn't return anything so I am posting this. I'm not sure where to begin troubleshooting this error.

I believe that this has something to do with recent changes to my local security policies as the issue began soon after the changes. (My audio has also stopped working after the changes.) I've go through the local security policy setting to set them back to their Win 7 defaults but that didn't help.

If someone knows what security setting might interfere with Syncdocs and result in this error, that would probably be the best place for me to start troubleshooting. Any assistance in heading me in the right direction would be appreciated.

I'd guess you restricted Syncdocs from accessing the local file system, which caused this problem. It needs filesystem access to work properly.

Sorry about the looong note, but I hope that this will prove helpful and pointing me in the right direction and help other in the future. When starting syncdocs I'm not getting the error:

Initialization error. Could not find part of the path 'M:\WorkingDocs\OriginalsBackup\'.

When I click "OK", SyncDocs Sync status window opens with the error:

General Form 1 load error. Could not find a part of the path "M:\WorkingDocs\OriginalsBackup\'

I verified that I can access every folder in the path above from windows explorer.

When clicking on the SyncDocs system icon in my taskbar and selecting "open local", it opens the "My Documents" folder. When I click on "Open Google Docs" nothing happens.

I clicked on the system icon, selected preferences, and I received the following Microsoft .NET Framework error message:

Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.

Oject reference not set to an instance of an object.

I pasted the details of the Microsoft .NET Framework error at the end of this post.

I click "continue" and it shows the options panel but the same .NET error appears. I click "Continue" again.

I'm able to access all preference tabs except "Folders." When I click folders I get the same Unhandled exception error. I click "Continue" and the error goes a way and the "Folders" tab header is selected, but is showing the preferences from the General tab.

There seems to be no way to change the folder settings.

I tried uninstalling SyncDocs, redownloading it, and reinstalling it as an admin and set the program to run as an admin. Still experienced the exact same issues.

I've also set it to log all errors, I've pasted the recent errors below (with my e-mail address changed).

The log gave me two clues, one was a number of errors stating:

I went into my local security policy settings and under "Local Policies/Security Options." I changed the policy "System cryptography: Use FIPS compliant algorithms for encryption, hashing, and signing" from "Enabled" to "Disabled." The Windows 7 default is "disabled".

I exited and restarted Syncdocs but am still receiving errors.

I then reset Syncdocs settings to their default values under the advanced tab. When asked if I wanted to reset the synchronization cache, I clicked on yes. It confirmed that the setting were reset and suggested I reset my folders, and it automatically tried to make the folders tab active, which threw the same unhandled exception error discussed above.

At this stage, I'm out of ideas.

This is a tough one.

I'm guessing your PC or domain security policy is locked down in some way.
If you go to the Control Panel -> "Credential Manager" do you see your Syncdocs Google Email address?

If this is not a credential problem, then it may be caused by your anti-virus program not letting Syncdocs access certain windows calls. You might need to give it permission.

The non FIPS algorithm Syncdocs uses is MD5 to hash the files. It may be that you need this Microsoft hotfix, http://archive.msdn.microsoft.com/KB935434 but it should already be installed on most modern systems.

No, I do not see my Syncdocs Google Email address in the Windows Vault. Should I add a credential? What should I enter for the "Internet or network address" field?

I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials which is what I was using when Syncdocs was working. Turning it off did not resolve the issue.

You should see credentials from Syncdocs in the Windows Vault. Adding them by hand is probably not going to help. I guess some security setting on your PC is locked, but this wouldn't explain why it is not working and once was. Are you on a Windows domain?

I'm not sure what's wrong. Perhaps the wyUpdate automatic updater component we are using is creating this issue when it tried to overwrite the file. As an experiment, can you please try installing the portable verison

It should bypass the wyUpdate program.

I installed the portable version and started it and received the following error: "General Form1 load error. Could not find a part of the path" and then it gave the path to the "OriginalBackups" folder. I've verified that the directory is there.

What is a bit confusing is that it didn't ask me to configure the directories to Sync, even though I uninstalled Syncback before installing the portable version. But after closing that, it started to Sync, which it hasn't done for some time. It updated the database, logged into Goggle and is now uploading.

So now it seems to be working. So is the answer to run the portable version?

I'm not that sure about the permissions setup on your computer.

The portable version requires lower permissions to run than an installed app.

Perhaps it was caused by a path problem, you can try installing the normal version again, to see if the portable version fixed the rights to the path.
