Just ran into a thorny issue. I have users who need to share locally-created MS Office files, that's working fine. However, they are also creating Google Docs which are then downloaded as editable office files. I need the Google Docs files to not be editable locally. Users are opening Google Spreadsheets in Excel, editing, saving, syncs backs and breaks the original Google Doc.
I need users to edit Google Docs _only_ in Google Docs, not locally. Conversely, I need them to see shared Office files and open them as normal. Therefore, I cannot set Google Docs as the default office suite. I need .doc and .xls to open in MS Office.
If I disable downloading I won't get the shared Office files. If I set Google as default editor they can't open Office files for editing.
