Ah ok... what I do is switching from home/office computer. At night both computer are set to sleep (no hibernation), so both computers may stay at sleep for 8/12hrs daily. That's why I may be experiencing full syncs also when configured in autosync mode.

What if the full sync interval could be user configurable ,and BTW why do you choose to full sync if a long-interval disconnection from Google has occurred?

When resuming from sleep it may do a full sync, but normally not. Syncdocs decides based on the time it has been out of contact with Google, and the number of changes that have been made since it last made contact.

Yes, auto mode is way faster after the first sync. If you don't want Syncdocs to sync that often, you can also set it to do a sync every 30 minutes in the Sync tab in the preferences.

Normally the first sync (which you have shown the timing of) is the one that takes a lot of time. Subsequent syncs are a lot faster (should be less than 10 seconds) as Syncdocs only needs to check for changes, not compare for changes while it was not running.

The speed of the first sync is limited by two main factors:
1. the speed of your Internet link
2. the rate at which the Google Drive server can serve data.

We can't do much about item 1 but Google has improved their server speed about 10x in the last 2.5 years. However server speed is currently the limiting factor. Paying Google Apps users have reported less rate limiting on the server than free users.

Is there a way to speed up sync?

Test I have performed (in minutes:seconds)
********************************************
Initializing: 0:49
Processing Changes: negligible
Mirroring deletes: negligible
Querying Google Documents 2:30
Processing Google queries: 0:30
Processing local changes: 1:10
Uploading/downloading: negligible
Verifying Sync: 1:10
Waiting for Google server 0:16
********************************************
From Log:
(ver. 5.10) 27860 files and folders are using 2,7 GB
(ver. 5.10) 28,2% of 86 GB used
*********************************************

Roughly 7 minutes to perform sync..... any thought?

It is odd that it suddenly started happening. Google is currently making big changes to the Google Drive backend (merging with GMail and g+) so perhaps this has an influence, but I don't think so.

Please send us the log file, and we'll take a look. You can get it by right clicking on the Syncdocs icon, selecting "Preferences", then "Advanced" and then "View Log".
(if you do not see an "Advanced" tab, click on "Advanced options..." button to see it)

Yes the files are shared with other users, however as I said this has been running for over a year without issue. They are only shared with 1 user per file. If you think about it too, why would it work a couple files at a time when I close and restart syncdocs?

If I exit syncdocs and relaunch it will upload a couple more files each time to this collection. If I do this enough times all files get updated. I have other collections that upload without error at the same time. Please help!!!

Here is a how-to guide on setting up multiple Google Drive accounts:
http://www.syncdocs.com/2011/11/how-to-sync-multiple-accounts-concurrently/

If you want to start the accounts syncing automatically when your PC or server starts, see this how-to guide:
http://www.syncdocs.com/2012/04/how-to-sync-multiple-google-docs-accounts-at-startup/

To setup a time for each Sync, look in the Syncdocs Preferences menu under the "Sync" Tab. This article shows in detail how to set-up syncs at specific intervals:
http://www.syncdocs.com/2011/05/what%E2%80%99s-new-in-syncdocs-0-52/

Another way is to schedule a batch file, which is useful if you want to run a backup of many Google Drive accounts sequentially, you can create a batch file with the following type of content:

syncdocs –OnlyRunSyncOnce -u user01@gmail.com
syncdocs –OnlyRunSyncOnce -u user02@gmail.com
syncdocs –OnlyRunSyncOnce -u user03@gmail.com

Other possible causes of the Google Server rejecting files are:
1. That the server thinks that the file contains malware or a virus. Try to check the files with a virus scanner, or online at virustotal.com
2. You (or users on your IP range) have exceeded an hourly upload limit on the Google server. You can check this by contacting Google technical support. Paid Google Apps accounts have a higher limit.

Andrew,

While there may well be a Google bug that is the root cause of the issue, I notice that the native Google Drive app doesn't seem to cause the same duplication-at-root problem.

Which makes me believe that it is at least possible to work around the issue.

I also notice that Google were made aware of a duplication issue more than a year ago and they are yet to fully address it.

Given the uncertain timing as to when Google may deal with the issue, what is the prospect/timing of a robust and effective solution to the issue coming via an update of Syncdocs?

I am currently marketing Google Apps to a number of clients, and at the moment I am forced to propose an alternative cloud storage solution that doesn't involve Google Drive or Syncdocs.

I would love to be able to propose Google Drive/Syncdocs, but couldn't even consider it while there is the prospect of my clients suddenly seeing rogue folders appearing for no apparent reason.

Thanks
Nick

Honestly, it is hard to guess Google's response. We logged it in January. I have spoken to them about it via other channels, recently, too, and there many threads on Google's own forums about it.

Thanks Andrew - any idea how long Google might take to respond to this (days/weeks/months)?

Hi NickA,
We got the log and will look at it again. I've also escalated the bug at Google. They are treating it as a High priority defect, so hopefully it is fixed soon at the source without the need for Syncdocs workarounds.

Hi, unfortunately I am having this issue again.

Two PCs synced to the same Google Drive account are both showing rogue folders at root in the Windows directory.

Both running 5.22, with "Sync hidden Google folders" option deselected.

No such rogue folders are appearing in Google Drive online.

I have emailed log files and screen shots.

Looking through the log file, there are plenty of log entries reading along the lines of "4/05/2013 8:36:00 AM(ver. 5.22) Google deleted folder but moved contents to root, for:"....

For the few I checked, these log entries correspond to the rogue folders that are appearing at root.

Help!

Thanks for the screen grab, NickA. The problem is caused by another Windows program (maybe anti-virus or MS Office) having an open file in that folder. As a result, Syncdocs cannot delete it, so the warning comes from Windows.

The next version of Syncdocs will have the option to skip these file locked errors so the sync can continue without user input.
