To enable encryption, simply select the folders you want encrypted.

This option is in the Preferences->Encrypt menu if you click on the Syncdocs taskbar icon.

There's an easy Quick Start Guide to Google Drive encryption.

Syncdocs also provides an extra security layer:
in case your Google account is hacked, your files will not be accessible and can be protected by "military strength" AES encryption.

However, it is better if you don't lose you account to hackers in the first place. Two factor auth is good practise.

As Google expands into more and more of our lives it is worth thinking about what would happen if you lost access to your Google account.

A good way to add extra security is to enable Google two-factor authentication. This lets you use your cellphone or landline as a way of recovering your password. Your account is much safer and less likely to get hacked.

Matt Cutts provides more reasons to turn it on in his blog.

Syncdocs supports accounts with two-factor. Just click on "generate password" in the "application specific" password section. You can revoke access at any time without changing your password, too.

See this how to guide for a detailed walk-through on setting things up, or look at the screen-shot below for a brief explanation:

Google Two Factor setup

kudos for tackling the hard to do stuff! Can't wait for an openPGP implementation that allows one to use stronger encryption.

256 bit symmetric keys are nothing insurmountable - certaily not in 5-10 years from now. And who knows every line of code inside the MS crypto api? ;)

Just saw this in the update and just want to say: an excellent feature!

Have been concerned ever since Google changed their terms of service, that they might have access to our files if they so choose. This puts a stop to that.

We have discovered a bug in Syncdocs encryption on these special circumstances.

1. PC1 encrypts a folder.
2. PC2 is pre-loaded with the same data as PC1, but not using Syncdocs, say by a normal network file copy.
3. PC2 then installs Syncdocs and sets automatic encrypted folder detection.
4. PC2 fails to see the existing folder as encrypted.

It is now fixed and will be released in the next beta.

Thank you for adding encryption. I started this thread and was surprised at some of the discussion along the way. This feature clearly separates from your main competition. Keep up the great work!

Also we should have a video of an early release of CipherDocs for Google Spreadsheets in the next day or so. Please go to our website http://www.cipherdocs.com
